Cossington Park comprises a pair of
medieval dwellings that were extended at the turn of the last century
by my great grandfather, Alan Douglas Graham. He sold Cossington
House and much of the family silver and paintings to help pay for
the 100 disadvantaged children he looked after. He founded the
children’s charity that is
now known as I-CAN (formerly the Invalid Children's Aid Association),
which is 115 years old.

The house is full of history related to my family
and, to an extent, to local culture and society. My ancestors have
included explorers, politicians and naval officers. My great great
grandfather was a Member of Parliament, promoter of the 1832 Reform
Bill and co-founder of the famous Reform Club in London. My great
grandfather established I-CAN. My grandfather was a rear Admiral.
My father was professor of archaeology at the University of Toronto. |
